YLP Day 3

COMPETITION YAH!!

Last night didn't know what to speak for my contest speech >.> And luckily mummy gave me an idea xD Reached there at 8am ++..

Navdeep called the program to order~ and Joshua gave his invocation to all the sleepy heads xD It was about the race of hare and tortoise, except this time the hare didn't stop, and the tortoise thought that the hare will, so the tortoise didn't give his best shot! Lesson? I forgot, but you tell me xD Remitra gave her report and then the day starts when we break into our groups to deliver our contest speech (just to improve things!) and I haven't even thoroughly read my speech because it was a last minute one >.> I talked and talked and my group coordinators really did helped me a lot, gave me new ideas for my gestures and vocal varieties!

Tea break.

Then we came back and saw the list! Our speaking order. I'm number 4!! And I was actually hoping to be the 2nd batch (14 1st batch, others 2nd batch) but I was 4th, so 1st batch! Jeeeez, nervous xD I was constantly complaining, some were amazed, some weren't happy with their order. Ryan asked me "Sarah, can we exchange our places? You know, i'm so young, if I speak after Andrew, the judge will kesian me and give me more marks" and I gave him the look. "What is your number?" "22" "NONONONO, that's too late.. Sorry!" xD Lame excuse!

So we break into our groups again and talked again, hoping to sharpen things up to a level of perfection! :D

Not as good as Day 2~!

OK, OH NO. Competition time!

But first, testing out the microphone. The portable one, clip onto your collar and put that machine into your pocket.. So tested and tested and called Christopher to test too.. His testing speech was LOL! xD

Navdeep called the program to order, then invited Shel to speak.. She spoke, and spoke, and spoke and she suddenly got emotional.... T-T And then LET THE COMPETITION BEGIN! Invited the contest chair, Ahmad and he called the participants one by one..

Chris talked about hair. Interesting! *doki doki* Dennis talked about alternate source of energy. *doki doki* Yi Ling talked about ways to reduce stress. *doki doki* I was stressed, because after her would be me! There was one part of her speech where she called everyone to stand up and take deep breaths to reduce stress. So I took some deep breaths to reduce my stress, but ended up getting dizzy xD

OK, SHE FINISHED, MY TURN!!

I went on stage. "Good afternoon contest chair *stutters* and je-bwuh-members of the floor" and then I continued on my speech. I spoke with gestures, vocal varieties and I also whispered my "secret" to the audience. And then, I forgot my last and most important line, which conveys my real message of my speech. I stood on the stage and stayed silent for about 2 seconds, staring on the ceiling. It was like forever and I couldn't get that line out!! So immediately I forced out a not very formal thank you and quickly scurried off the stage Dx

After 12 participants (not 14!) we had a tea break. Mummy said I did well, some congratulated me for speaking. And I went and find my friends who were mostly on the second half of the contest. I gave them some not really helpful advices though xD

Navdeep called the program to order and we continued on the competition! After all the speakers has finished, it was the "judgment" time!

Most improved speaker went to Min Jie whose speech title is "I Want A Pet". Best speaker went to Hann Lam whose speech title was "We". 2nd runner up was the semi Arashi-fangirl, Kar-Mun who spoke about "3 ways to be healthy", 1st runner up went to add-maths and physics lover Christopher who talked about hair (as mentioned above) and obviously, best speaker = champion, Hann Lam :D Yes, great job winners! And no, those who didn't win are not losers. No one say we lost, right? :)

Then parents gave their speech instead, talking about this program, how well it went. Barry also talked. Shel was so touched and moved, she cried. I felt like crying too, but I seriously held back my tears. LIKE SERIOUSLY. The program was gonna end, and we were gonna part from each other whom we grew so close during those 3 days! It was a very moving scene, I say. Then, the program ended. We all said goodbye to each other, giving hugs and smiles. Jo-ann suggested to take a picture of us.

OK, I'm emotional now.. HAD SO MUCH FUN! I love you guys, hope to see you all soon :)

YLP Day 2

Didn't really want to go because I didn't want to speak in front of everybody about my SUSHI making experience xP

Reached there at 8.30am, found my name tag and sat at my place (beside Kar-Mun :D). Then Dennis called the program to order and Stephanie didn't show up today! T.T Christopher gave an invocation, about 3 hikers and a genie? Yeah, and the random "SHIT!" word xD Then Yi Ling (secretary) talked about her report.

Then we started, and Shel tell us how to evaluate people and then we had a "Lucky Draw" to draw our order of speaking o.o I got 18~ which means the second batch :D And I was to evaluate on Kar-Yan's speech about "Money Cannot Buy Happiness". So 15 participants spoke, and then we had a tea break and then when we come back, we had a "Presentation on Body Language & Gestures" by Valli~ It was a fun presentation, loads of body languages and gestures!

After the presentation, we had to evaluate on the previous speakers' speech! Of course I evaluate on Kar-Yan's and YESH, I still shook like hell because I was still very nervous! And then we the second batch had to deliver our speech and Kar-Mun is to evaluate on me :D I know I didn't do well on my sushi making >.>

And then we had a DVD presentation of world-level toastmasters. Yesh, they're cho subarashi! (Very amazing!) They had massive body languages, massive expressions, massive vocal variety and massive interesting points! Oh, and massive humour =X

It was better! Yesh, mecha oishii~

Came back and broke into our groups, and today my groups coordinators are Shel and Ravinder :D So we had to talk about our speech again (mine was the sushi making one~) with more hand gestures. And obviously, after my first speech, I didn't want to remember that speech anymore, so I missed out a lot, and spoke with hand gestures and body language, and I didn't reach the time limit D8

Then we had Table Topics, the one that I dislike. So Shel passed to Hann Lam to conduct the program. Hann Lam started with "WHO HERE WANTS TO SUCCEED TOMORROW PLEASE STAND UP!!" and a few stood up, excluding me :D Seeing this, he went on one by one, spoke into the face of each person. "DO YOU WANT TO SUCCEED?! DO YOU?! ARE YOU SURE?! IF YOU WANT, STAND UP!" He went on and on and finally he came to me. He spoke that way, and I gave him a confused look. "DO YOU?!" Peer pressure xP I nodded and stood up. Then after he went to each and every participant, he gave a shocking announcement. "Those you stood up (aka who wanna succeed) will have to do Table Topics!" and I went all "EEEHH??!!" and normal reflexes, I sat down. Fortunately, Shel said, "let those who are sitting down do it, since they do not want to succeed" and natural reflexes, I shot back up XD So he randomly went to those who were sitting down and handed them a bowl of folded papers which contains their Table Topics title. Then suddenly, I forgot who, but its a coordinator said "Let those who wanna succeed have a chance!" TADA, my nightmare. Hann Lam came to me and I declined. "Nonononononono, I don't waaaaaant!!" "Take laa....." "Nonononononono!!!!" and I back away =3 Yesh, this is not a spirit of a speaker, if you wanna be a speaker, don't do what I did because I only realised my mistake after that =( So, everyone spoke and coordinators evaluate.

Then home :D

YLP Day 1

• YLP - Youth Leadership Program

I went with dread. I didn't want to go because I don't have friends there. After registering, I sat beside my gonna-be-friend! She talked to me.

"Hi. I'm Stephanie" "Hi, I'm Sarah" and we shook hands. New friend~ We talked and knew lots from each other. And then the program starts. *nervous!*

So Shel introduced herself and all the coordinators too! And then we had some kind of ice-breaking session. "Talk about your new friend". So we had to do some speech and talk about your new friend you made (mine is Stephanie, of course xD) and had to talk in front of everyone (26 other participants!). So everyone spoke and I spoke the 2nd last (Stephanie after me) and I was very very very nervous! I was practically clutching my paper and my hand shook! Oh, and everything you said is timed xD

Then we had a "Nominations of Election of Office Bearers.
1st session

And then we had "The 10 Elements of a Good Speech" lesson by Parames and had I forgot what's her name!! a guest speaker to demo how to do an Ice Breaker speech. She started with "A star was born on ___(her birthday)___ and the star was me" :D Amazing? And then a coordinator maaaaan.. I forgot who!! to evaluate on her speech.

After that, we break into our groups. My group was group 4, coodinated by Allan. We had Table Topics, aka Impromptu Speaking. OMG, I don't like Table Topics because they give you a title and you have to talk about it, like IMMEDIATELY. And mine was "My School". OK, super random. I couldn't find my words and I just mainly blabber everything that came across my mind 8O. After that, we prepared for our Ice Breaker speech~

Lunch............ It wasn't good.......... T-T

We came back and deliver our speech in our group~ I did OK, but Christopher's was best! Titled: One Word :D So in the end, he was chosen to be our group's representative xD

Then we had a break, and came back for a presentation on Organise Your Speech and then we broke up into our groups to discuss on what to talk in our Organise Your Speech speech for the next day xD

And YAY! HOME! xD
